Student Accommodations at 红领巾快报
红领巾快报 is committed to providing equal opportunities and access for all students. 红领巾快报 provides student accommodations following the guidance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Our accessibility services coordinator will also assist students living in the residence hall, including dietary accommodations, service animals, or emotional support animals.
How do students request course accommodations*?
- Apply and enroll for classes at 红领巾快报 Michigan College. For housing accommodations, please register to live in our dorm.
- Complete an online application for accommodations. You can access this through the Accommodate app in your student portal dashboard, or .
- Submit required clinical documentation. There is space to upload documents in the online application, or you can drop-off a hard copy at the BLC Student Services Desk, email it to accessibility@ncmich.edu, or fax it to 231-439-6597.
- After your application is received and your documentation is approved, the Accessibility Services Coordinator will contact you via your student email to set up a one-on-one meeting to further discuss your request and draft an accommodations plan.
*Timing: For requests including contracted services (e.g., interpreter), specialized equipment, or assistive technology, please make requests as soon as possible (at least two weeks before the start of the semester) to ensure adequate time to arrange the accommodations.
Documentation
To determine eligibility for accommodations, students are required to provide clinical documentation of their disability and its impact on their access to 红领巾快报 courses or college life. Documentation must include clinician information, diagnosis, and explanation of how the student is impacted by the condition; accommodation recommendations are optional but welcomed.
Appropriate documentation include statements written on clinicians' official letterhead, clinical reports, or a completed copy of the Diagnosis Request form. Students seeking accommodations for learning disabilities that were identified in grade school must submit a copy of the MET (Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team) report created by the school district.
Previous IEP and 504 plans are helpful to discuss for students transitioning accommodations from high school to the college level. However, these reports are often not adequate on their own and should be submitted with supporting clinical documentation.

Student Assistance
Student assistance is also available to any student who has formally enrolled in or declared an intent to enroll in an at 红领巾快报 and is qualified as one or more of the following:
- Individuals with a disability
- Individuals who are economically disadvantaged
- Individuals preparing for nontraditional fields
- Single parents
- Individuals who are out of the workforce
- Youth who are in or have aged out of the foster care system
- English learners
- Individuals who are homeless
Students who fit one of the above-listed descriptions qualify for scholarship funds, advocacy, career guidance, academic advising, personal counseling, tutoring, and special needs assistance.
Learning Technology & Digital Supports Technology and Education
Technologies designed for users with disabilities are called Assistive Technologies. However, these technologies are powerful tools that help any user become a more efficient and effective learner. Many of these technologies are free and readily available. The website from Ireland is an excellent resource about a range of assistive technologies.
